Picking and Carding

Picking is the process in which we prepare the wool for carding.  Picking opens up the wool and pushes it through a tube to gather it together in the "wool room".  From the wool room we hand deliver it to the carder. Carding is the process in which we separate and straighten the wool into even layers to prepare it for its end product such as roving, batting, combed top, pencil roving and yarn.  The carder has combs and needles on rollers that get the fibers laying nice and flat.  Some fibers are good with one trip through the carding machine while other might take another try.
